The Wall Will Fall - Pt1
Saudi Arabia Option Studio | MIT
This project is a wall that breaks down as society makes gradual changes. The mud wall, as a component that needs constant upkeep, specifically allows for a dialogue between communities and this barrier between social and political classes. The wall will break down over time as rain and wind wear away its layers, as plants dig their roots in, and as humans interact with it. This kind of wall allows for the architect to design for an envisioned future that may not be possible to propose at the moment.
Part 1 of this project is an investigation on materiality, constructability and form, first with reduced scale mud brick models, then a 1:1 partial wall.
